Ich habe es aus Zeitgründen nur überflogen, aber auch so wird schon deutlich, dass Ihr Buch sehr gehaltvoll und die Geschichte Ihrer Familie sehr vielschichtig ist. Zudem geht Ihre Darstellung ja über die enge biografische Beschreibung hinaus. Ich könnte mir gut vorstellen, dass ein Verlag daran Interesse hat. Hallo Bertil, ich wollte mich schon längst nochmal melden und mich bedanken. Ich habe noch eine Nachbesprechung mit meiner Klasse gestern abgewartet. Die Schüler fanden die Veranstaltung sehr gut! Wir haben nochmals über ein paar Aspekte deiner Familienbiographie gesprochen und ein paar Folien deiner PowerPoint angeschaut dazu. Vielen vielen Dank, dass du bei uns warst! Es war sehr lehrreich für meine Schüler. Der Schüler, der dich danach noch angesprochen hatte (Giovanni), meinte, dass man durch deinen Vortrag das ganze allgemeine Geschichtliche gut an wahren Menschen nachvollziehen konnte. Es war ein Erfolg! Ich hoffe du findest die Zeit zum reflektieren die nächsten Wochen. Das war sicher eine sehr anstrengende Woche für euch. Das glaube ich dir. Es freut und ehrt mich sehr, dass ich ein Teil der Stolpersteinverlegungen für deine Familie sein durfte. Liebe Grüße Philipp

A very impressive true story that deserves to be told. This book is a victory in more ways than one. First of all, on the silence that resulted from the trauma suffered by the survivors of the Shoah. But it is certainly also a victory over the extermination ideology of the National Socialists. It was the intention of Hitler and his cronies to wipe Jews, Roma and Sinti and political opponents off the face of the earth and to make their memory disappear forever. This book is proof that this endeavor failed. Bertil Oppenheimer has reconstructed his parents’ story through a tenacious and in-depth research of archives in several countries. The result is a scientifically sound reconstruction of how his parents survived the Nazi persecution. The author rightly expresses concern about current developments in the world. It is hoped that the power of the reasonable word, of reason and of humanity will prevail over extreme currents and the ideology of violence. This book is a plea for humanity and an indictment of extremism. I wish it the many readers it deserves.

"Just read a book in Swedish, translated into English the title goes “To Sweden, the story that was never told”. The book is written by Bertil Oppenheimer, whom I got to know as we are members of the same local circle of a Swedish political party. The main take-aways for me from this fantastic book were: - Learning more about the holocaust – I have since long promised myself to live up to the following advice: "Tell it to your children, and let your children tell it to their children, and their children to the next generation." Now I can do so with more conviction. - Learning about the actions by fellow nations, institutions and individuals towards the Jewish community during the second world war e.g. the Swedish government, the Dutch people, Swedish Jews - “There is good and bad in everyone”. - A “Who is Who” for Sweden and the 20th century. - The dilemma for parents when their kids wants to marry someone from a different faith – Is your loyalty with your religion and tradition or with your next of kin? - The description of how this ethnical and religious community sticks together no matter what. - Finally, enjoying a breathtaking journey through the life and history of Bertil’s family. What are WE doing to make sure history doesn’t repeat itself?"

Hej Bertil! Hoppas allt är bra med dig och din familj. Ser fram emot vaccinationerna nu i april/maj så att vi kan ha våra träffar i simhallen men också mera privat. Jag och min hustru Ulla har idag tagit del av ditt fantastiska föredrag [från Förintelsedagen den 27 januari 2021- nu även möjligt att se och höra på YouTube]. Ditt framförande var tydligt, väl balanserat och mycket kraftfullt. Trots att jag för något år sedan läst din bok grep ditt föredrag tag i både Ulla och mig. Mycket känslosamt och betydelsefullt. Din berättelse är av stor vikt för vårt samhälle idag. Måtte din låga brinna länge, länge än. Ditt föredrag och din bok kommer vi att ge tips om till alla våra släktingar och vänner. Med beundran! Hej Bertil, Ja, det var ett verkligt fascinerande föredrag [digitalt föredrag för släktforskningsförenigen DIS den 8 december 2020]och jag har tänkt på det mycket efteråt. Dels för att historien i sig är så fruktansvärd och samtidigt vilken tur (eller skicklighet kanske snarare) du haft som lyckats hitta så mycket material/information i efterhand. Det måste vara jobbigt att söka i arkiv som upprättats i ett så ont syfte med allt vad det innebär. Jag har själv inga judar i min släkt men det är ju en del av allas vår historia. Jag har kommit på en fråga i efterhand och jag ställer den men du behöver så klart inte svara om du inte vill eller har tid. Jag har för mig att du sa att redan innan vi närmade oss andra världskriget, så fanns det register över människor där man markerat vilka som var judar. Var det så och varför i så fall? Fanns det alltså en vilja att veta vilka som tillhörde vilken religion långt innan? Jag har alltid undrat varför det hatet som blev mot just judarna dels blev så starkt och dels vad som startade det. Tusen tack återigen för ett väldigt bra föredrag! Du är en duktig berättare! - Bertils kommentar: Det finns ett antal Juderegister i Sverige som upprättats före, under och efter kriget.
